Community health centers around the state of SC are gearing up to celebrate National Health Center Week, a national campaign that is scheduled to take place from August 7-13, 2022. Observed in the second week of August each
year, the goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of community health centers since 1965.
South Carolina’s community health centers play a vital role in our state’s healthcare
safety net. Not only are they innovators in health care delivery, but they also feature a patient-governed medical home model that utilizes care teams and enabling services that help patients address their medical, behavioral,
and social needs.

In 2019, South Carolina community health centers served over 439,000 patients by providing primary and preventive care services to our state’s underserved populations. South Carolina has a robust network of Health
Center Advocates who fight for good policies and sustainable funding for our nation’s health centers. By signing up to become a health center advocate, you will receive regular communication about the issues affecting health
centers and action alerts encouraging you to contact your local, state, and federal policymakers to advocate for supportive policies and legislation.
Health centers are actively involved in helping those individuals who are disproportionately affected by disasters and have carved out specific emergency management roles and responsibilities based on the needs of the community in which they operate. To align ourselves with the need for emergency planning, the SCPHCA works with many local, state, and national partners to assist community health centers in emergency preparedness planning and response.
The SCPHCA is proud to announce that we have 30 new Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Instructors in the state of South Carolina, three being Spanish speaking. The goal of the PCA is to increase MHFA trainees in Community Health Centers across the state.
COVID-19 has shown the importance in being trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health crises.
