New Horizon Family Health Services hosted a grand opening for its new West Faris Road facility in Greenville today. Once fully operational, the new health center will accommodate an additional 10,000 patients.
"This new state-of-the art facility will allow us to serve more community residents in need of a family doctor and medical home," said Regina Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of New Horizon who this week celebrated her 17th year with the organization. "With this new center we continue to grow and transform our service delivery model and seek new opportunities to meet the needs of patients within our community."
The new three-story center, located at 975 West Faris Road in Greenville, will also offer on-site radiology and pharmacy services and an urgent care center with extended evening and Saturday hours. The center will be fully operational within a year. New Horizon will hire 50 new employees including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists and other clinical and support staff. At full capacity, 20 medical providers will staff the facility. Greenville Health System donated the six acres of land for the new center, which is located on a bus route making it more accessible to residents who lack transportation.
"Ceremonies like this are very special to me," said David Sudduth Greenville Mayor Pro Tem. "I get to represent the city and really acknowledge all the hard work that went into building a facility like this but also working for Greenville Health System and recognizing what New Horizon is doing for us in healthcare, in our community is also very special."
Community Health Centers (CHCs) are non-profit, community-owned organizations serving medically underserved communities confronted with financial, geographic, language, cultural and other barriers. Across the nation, health centers provide high quality preventive and primary health care to patients regardless of their ability to pay. In South Carolina, CHCs provide care for more than 324,000 patients annually. CHC's cost of care rank among the lowest, and they reduce the inappropriate use of emergency rooms, which save taxpayer dollars
New Horizon health center was established in 1992 as Greenville Community Health Center with only a few doctors and 2,500 patients, the center was housed on the eighth floor of the old Greenville General Hospital. Today, New Horizon serves more than 24,000 patients at five office locations and two mobile units. It offers quality health care for anyone in need of a family doctor and medical home. New Horizon maintains strong working relationships with many other health and human services providers, hospitals and community agencies. Its patient-centered care model supports the goal of quality care for all people.
