2018 Annual Conference

posted on Saturday, October 20, 2018

For 35 years, health center executives and board members have gathered for professional development and fellowship opportunities at the SCPHCA Annual Conference & Board Governance Retreat. This October that tradition renewed as approximately 216 people descended on Hilton Head Island for the Retreat, which featured the theme of "Driving Value through Innovation."  The proceedings lead off that Friday, Oct. 19, with Anton Gunn, a leading health care consultant and former Obama Administration official, speaking to that theme. From there, everyone came out for a fun reception with a guest list that included NACHC President Tom Van Coverden. The next day, attendees went to concurrent sessions with diverse tracks, such as: board governance, human resources, finance, leadership, and information technology. At lunch on Saturday, Oct. 20, comedian Akintunde brought the house down with a hilarious but evocative set. In the afternoon, NACHC General Counsel Jackie Leifer, lead a memorable session that sought to clearly delineate the roles between a health center's executive management and board.  The next morning, Impact2Lead Founder and Owner Gary Campbell delivered the closing keynote "The Impact of Unleashing Potential".  SCPHCA CEO Lathran J. Woodard closed the retreat with an awards ceremony which acknowledged several health center leaders who exhibit excellence in their craft.
