The goal of the Health Care for the Homeless Initiative is to develop and implement the initiative through partnership development.
SCPHCA is a member of the South Carolina Council on Homelessness. This group consists of state agencies and statewide organizations which work on homeless issues. The Council has written a ten-year plan to end homelessness. The first comprehensive statewide homeless count took place in January 2007.
SCPHCA also works with the staff of South Carolina’s five regional continuums of care. The continuums are made up of direct providers of homeless services and those receiving HUD funding. In working with the regional continuums, SCPHCA seeks to involve local health center staff and to increase their knowledge of homeless issues. SCPHCA also seeks to inform members of the continuums about health centers services available to the homeless population.
